#InHerWords: 30 Days in UAE
So, what have I been doing? Mostly working, but I find some time to have fun.
I work at the Petroleum Institute. I serve as a marketing/communications graduate assistant. I have three main projects:
- Redesigning the school’s internal website for students, staff and faculty
- Assessing their social media usage for Student Life and student groups such as Student Government Association (SGA)
- Writing articles about programs and events sponsored by the institute, and highlighting the students’ stories
While I enjoy my work, I am taking advantage of opportunities to meet new people and try new things. I went to Bounce, an indoor trampoline park. It was quite the workout. One Saturday morning, I met some of my sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for coffee. I used social media to find them in UAE, and there are a lot of us I might add. As always, they welcomed me with open arms.
Probably my favorite activity so far, I attended a yacht party for sorority sister Nicole’s birthday. We cruised along the Corniche off the Arabian Gulf as the city view shadowed in the background. Sorority Sister LaKendra and I went for a bike ride at Yas Island. My roommates and I also attended a birthday party for an LSU alumnus Jay.·
Our first break is September 11. Since our weekends start on Friday, I will be out of work until September 18. That tallies nine days for a vacation! I know it’s vacation time already. I will be traveling to Muscat, Oman with more sisters. Muscat has amazing mountains and beaches. What a combination!
Next week, I will produce my first Vlog, which is a video-based blog. I will answer all questions about Abu Dhabi. Plus you get to see my face and hear my voice! Submit questions below or here.
